10 WELLNESS TIPS FOR TRAVEL

“I really need to detox after that long weekend away.” “I need a holiday after my holiday.” We all love to pack our bags and jet, but it can wreak havoc on eating plans, derail exercise and sleep routines. Being mindful of good routines and giving yourself permission to indulge here and there is the way we like to approach travel. Read on for 10 tips for wellness on the road.

1. SNACK SMART ON THE ROAD

Airports and airplanes are where healthy diets go to die. First things first: don’t eat the plane food – it’s typically loaded with salt, carbs and other nasties. Eat before you fly, and bring low sugar bars, home-made bliss balls, nuts and bananas on board. Plan to enjoy and indulge guilt-free, (hello breakfast buffet!) but also research healthy options or restaurants at your destination and promise yourself two healthy meals a day.

2. MEDITATE FOR BETTER SLEEP

Get on top of the jetlag. It can be difficult to fall asleep in a different environment, let alone when you’re battling jetlag. Set yourself up for sleep success with an eyemask, ear plugs and pop on your headphones for an evening meditation podcast, designed to help get your body prepared for zz’s. We love the sleep meditations on the free app Insight Timer.

3. KEEP MOVING

Part of the fun of travelling is trying new things – why not go look up an acro-yoga class, go for a pre-breakfast run, give the local F45 gym a go, or use a bike for transport In a pinch, blast your favorite tunes on Spotify and do a short freestyle HiiT session. 15 minutes of dancing around your hotel room will get your blood pumping and give you that holiday glow!

4. DIGITAL DETOX

Unplug and detox digitally from social media. Whilst it’s tempting to Instagram your way through a holiday, give it a rest and simply be in the moment. Do it the old fashioned way if you have to, with a camera.

5. FEED YOUR SOUL WITH A GOOD READ

Bring a life-enhancing book that presents you with ideas for wellbeing and positivity. Curling up with a good read is one of life’s pleasures, and when you’re giving your mind and heart tools for better living away from the day-to-day stresses, you have the perspective to truly appreciate the words on the page. 6. TAKE VITAMINS

Your body will be more susceptible to illness in a new place with new bugs, so we like to take mega doses of Liposomal Vitamin C which is absorbed well by the body, along with strong probiotics to ensure gut healthy remains on track.

7. HYDRATE

Bring a lightweight refillable water bottle with you and don’t forget to keep drinking water. Obvious but essential.

8. LEAVE WORK BEHIND

Do a proper handover at work. We can’t stress how much this has impacted the enjoyment of our vacations!

9.HAVE GOOD TRAVEL INSURANCE

Make sure you have travel insurance robust plan. Vital but often forgotten! The easiest bet is to have an annual plan so you don’t need to worry. We got stuck in the Bali volcano and regretted having flimsy coverage that barely put a dent in our additional costs.

10. GO WITH THE FLOW

It's great to plan, but when your schedule is packed right down to the minute you lose the ability to be present and go with the flow of your surroundings. Take a wrong turn, be spontaneous, talk to strangers and navigate with an open, aware mind.
