green smoothie

The easiest way to get a hit of green goodness is to blend and drink them! I use a simple Nutribullet, and like to pre-cut and freeze smoothie essentials like bananas, avocados, pears and berries.

1. Andrea's Green Goddess Gulp

I do variations of this smoothie depending on what I have in the fridge.

2 large handfuls of spinach

1/2 frozen banana

1/4 cup blueberries

1 tablespoon chia seeds

Coconut water to taste.

Place the spinach leaves at the bottom of the nutribullet, add the frozen banana (you won't need ice cubes), berries, chia seeds and fill the cup up with coconut water. Blitz and serve. Easy peasy!

2. Jody Vassallo's Ultimate Green Hit

Jody is an amazing Ayurvedic Chef and we've had the good fortune to have enjoyed her incredibly healing food on her Rising Collective retreats. Although I'm a Vata dosha and not really supposed to drink cold drinks, (we need grounding, warming beverages) I can't resist this glass of goodness!

1 celery stalk, roughly chopped

200 g strawberries, hulled

1 small avocado, chopped

1 Lebanese cucumber

1 tablespoon spirulina

1 tablespoon chia seeds

45 g (1 cup) shredded kale or baby spinach

375 ml (11/2 cups) coconut water

Combine the celery, strawberries, avocado, cucumber, spirulina, chia seeds, kale or spinach and coconut water in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

3. Creamy Ginger Smoothie Recipe by Kimberly Snyder

I absolutely love ginger, and this recipe combines the heatiness of the spice with the tartness of lime beautifully, and dates and pears sweeten it nicely. I prefer to go easy on the dates and just add 1 instead of the recommended 2 pieces, and I add vanilla coconut yoghurt to make it extra creamy and indulgent.

  • 1 cup coconut water

  • Juice of one lime

  • 1 cup baby spinach

  • ½ cup cucumber, peeled and deseeded

  • 1 ripe pear

  • 2 dates

  • ½ tsp. freshly ground ginger

  1. Add ingredients to high-speed blender and blend till smooth.

  2. *Optional: add some vegan yogurt at the bottom of cup and use a skewer to pull the yogurt upwards, for a nice presentation.
