THE BEST WELLNESS EXPERIENCES IN HONG KONG
Updated: Apr 23, 2020
Hong Kong is one of our favourite urban spots for wellness, sure it may be hidden down an alley or tucked away in a skyscraper, but this is one of the best places to stay fit and healthy in Asia. Our Well Healed Guides are updated every quarter, and all are tried and tested, we simply recommend the best of our Well Healed Dozen.
THE BEST YOGA CLASS TO DE-STRESS
90 MINUTE RESTORATIVE AT THE IYENGAR YOGA CENTRE
Tucked away in Sheung Wan/Sai Ying Pun, The Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong is a quiet haven amidst the bustle of Hong Kong. The 90 minute Restorative class is a very prop-focused class, and after stretching out with the ropes, we guarantee you will feel at least three inches taller. If you fancy a class that's traditional, authentic and deeply restorative, this is it. Drop in session, $250 HKD.
THE BEST IMMUNE BOOSTER

B12 BOOSTER SHOT AT REVIV WELLNESS
IV therapy has been used in the medical profession to hydrate patients and administer nutrients, and in more recent years it's become available outside of hospital settings. Reviv Wellness is an international clinic offering hydrating and intravenous vitamin boosters. A recent medical test with our GP showed that we were low in vitamin B12 amongst, and after confirming that booster injections were a-go by our doctor, we decided to give it a proverbial shot! B12 converts carbohydrates into glucose in the body, leading to energy production and we felt a lot less lethargic in the subsequent days, despite jet lag and a crazy work schedule. Reviv offers a number of options ranging from hangover helpers like the Hydromax drip to mega doses of vitamin c and glutathione. We highly recommend checking in with your doctor before giving this a go - just to be safe.
THE BEST CORE STRENGTHENING CLASS

THE H-KORE CLASS
The 'reformer on steroids' class at H-Kore is for people who want to seriously work on their core. Originally developed by Sebastian Legree (we tried it in NYC around five years ago with the Well and Good founders!) the slow and controlled movements work wonders on the physique, as well as 'waking up' muscles. Try the 6am if you are brave with instructor Garth. Drop in classes from $350 HKD, they are on Class Pass too.
THE BEST SOUND BATH

RED DOORS SOUND HEALING
All night. Sound bath. We were hooked at the thought. Recently we've become obsessed with sound healing, having experienced the efficacy of vibrational therapy. It's truly an all encompassing, full mind-body experience, and whilst we've got a number of podcasts and tracks on the go in our iPhones for home use, nothing beats a live session. Located in Wong Chuk Hang on Hong Kong island, Red Doors uses the magical properties of gongs to induce you into a deeply relaxed theta state which allows your conscious and unconscious body to calm and rejuvenate itself.

With a large selection of cold-pressed juices, healthy soups and sweet potato mash, as well as salads and protein fixes as late as 10pm, it's great for post workout or a late evening in the office.
THE BEST SHAMANS
We have worked with many healers over the years, and there are some that stand out as truly life changing. Whilst many are based elsewhere, there are two that we especially love who make regular trips to Hong Kong. By introduction only, so get in touch if you want to know more!
THE BEST HOLISTIC HEALING THERAPY
POLARITY THERAPY BY TIM TSE
Polarity Therapy is a system of energy balancing involving bodywork, counseling, therapeutic exercise and nutrition. It is based on the work of Dr. Randolph Stone who integrated his work as a Naturopath, Osteopath and Chiropractor with the eastern concepts of energy flow found in the Ayurvedic system of India, as well as the Chinese and Egyptian Hermetic System. A session usually consists of about an hour of hands-on bodywork, involving a series of both light and deep contact to release the energy and allow it to re establish a normal balanced flow. This results in deep relaxation, allowing for a release of tension and chronic pain and providing an opportunity for you to discover more about your mental and emotional blocks and how to develop a healthy attitude toward life. Tim is one of the most talented polarity therapists in the world, now based in the UK, contact us if you would like to know when Tim is next in Hong Kong.
THE BEST FULL MOON RITUAL

FULL MOON CEREMONY AT FOUR SEASONS HONG KONG
The lunar calendar has long held significance in spiritual practices, as the full moon is a time of potent energy. This can be magnified for positivity, or conversely, amplify negative emotions and as such, it's a prime opportunity to ground yourself through a dedicated meditation practice to set good intentions for the month ahead. The Four Seasons Spa has always been a favourite of ours, with its expert therapists and luxe environs, and Director of Spa Shoshana Weinberg has composed a beautiful ceremony paying tribute to la luna. The session encompasses a guided deep meditation in savasana and a seated meditation in silence. Using aromatherapy oils, authentic Tibetan singing bowls, crystals and organic copal, a sacred resin from Mexico, this is a beautiful opportunity to get in touch with a higher sense of focus and consciousness. Reserve ahead of time to ensure a space, and if you can pair it with a soothing massage before or after - even better.
THE BEST FLOTATION THERAPY

FLOAT ON HONG KONG
Being slightly claustrophic, I wasn't convinced on flotation therapy, where for a full sixty minutes you are immersed in a pod in complete darkness, floating in water infused with epsom salts. After this session, I slept like a baby, and the dose of magnesium through the salt bath helped some yoga aches and pains too. Single float from $630 HKD.
THE BEST INFRARED SAUNA
INFRARED AT THE SKIN GYM
Owing to both of our Scandi heritage, we absolutely love a good sauna sweat sesh to detoxify after a long week of work, travel, or if you are feeling bloated through too much naughty food or alcohol. We grew up with a sauna in our backyard, which we alternated with jumping into the bracingly cold Swedish sea, a time-old tradition that certainly gets circulation going... So, ok, this isn't exact the Stockholm archipelago, but The Skin Gym is the best place in central HK for a 30 minute session, followed by lots of water to rehydrate, natch. So what exactly is an infrared sauna? Far-infrared emitters create infrared energy which is close to the same wavelength as that which the body naturally emits—often referred to as the "Vital Range” of 7 to 14 microns), so the energy deeply penetrates the skin and warms the muscles and joints. It feels great, and is a part of our monthly wellness routine.
