The Best Chinese Doctor

Dr. Mark Chern
After several years of searching for a TCM doctor that we could relate to – and who coud relate to me, we got in touch with Dr. Chern. Mark Chern practices Chinese Medicine in Singapore and has a background in Women’s Health. Unlike some of the old fuddy-duddy TCM’s, Mark is really aware of the pressures and constraints of modern living, and customises his treatment plans to fit realistically into your lifestyle. What I love about Mark is that he genuinely cares about his patients overall well-being and is thoughtful in his approach. If something isn’t working, he won’t hesitate to think about alternatives, or research and recommend other modalities or practitioners for your treatment. He uses uses Chinese medicine and acupuncture in tandem with diagnostics from blood or imaging results to treat fertility and reproductive conditions, but also provides support for thyroid, skin and other autoimmune conditions, often in various levels of collaboration with Western Medicine or nutrition/naturopathy.

The Best Osteopath

Charlotte Robin at Body With Soul
While Charlotte treats many conditions, we went to hear for my chronic neck pain. Over the years, we’ve seen many, many physios and osteos around the world – some better than others. During my first session with her at the Body with Soul clinic in Rochester Park, she took her time assessing not only the source of the pain, but also the body in its entirety. Laying on her treatment table while listening to the birds chirping in the garden as she expertly administered an ultra relaxing cranio-sacral treatment, was incredibly relaxing. The efficacy of her adjustments was real – we felt much better and for longer than I have with other practitioners. Funny and real, she’s pragmatic in her approach and aims to complete her patients’ therapy over a number of sessions so that they are not bound to see her indefinitely. Originally French, she has worked in a Central London clinic for over 15 years, and concurrently taught visceral osteopathy to third year students at her alma mater, the British College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The Best Tibetan Healing
Tibetan bLA Energy Healing at Basic Essence
The bLA (pronounced as La) energy is the pure energy of the five elements that constitute our human body. It gives us strength, vigor, stability, and harmonic development of the body. The bLA or protective energy circulates in our body according to the moon cycle. Through trauma or shock, we can lose this protective energy. Some symptoms include feeling of sadness, tiredness, anxiety, confusion, mental nervouseness and particularly, sudden and repeated awakenings, during sleep. We came here during a particularly traumatic emotional upset, and this soft touch therapy with sound healing on bLA points helped calm the nervous system, rebalance the excessive anxious energy and relaxed us.

The Best Hot Yoga

Hot Flow at Hom Yoga with Blair Hughes
We are obsessed with the therapeutic benefits of infrared saunas, and when you marry this type of radiant heat with yoga, you’ve got the perfect recipe for safe detoxification. Infrared heat is a form of energy that allows you to heat your body more effectively and penetrate more deeply than other types of heat. What makes infrared heating feel so different than traditional forced air systems is the way the heat is distributed. Infrared light waves consist of invisible radiant energy, penetrating deep into the cellular level. It’s similar to the feeling you get while lying on the beach and feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin, whilst forced air can make your yoga sesh feel stuffy and dried out. Hom Yoga is one of the few studios in Singapore that uses infrared heat in it’s hot classes, and the Hot Flow and Hot Hatha with Blair Hughes marries yoga asana with philosophy and the principles of yoga. We also love his hands on adjustments.
